Projects and Workgroups

Downtown Walking Tours Preliminary design for Farmington Walking Tour
The Village Works action identified establishing downtown walking tours as a doable first project. Walking tours are now in development in three “hub” communities: Norway, Farmington and Skowhegan. Project managers have met to discuss approaches to interpretive signage and collateral materials and are attempting to achieve continuity of approach. Projects are funded by Community Development Block Grants and private foundations.

Main Street Programs
The Maine Downtown Center is sponsoring Main Street programs in two "hub" communities: Norway and Skowhegan. These programs, following a model developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, focus on four areas of work – organization, promotion, design, and economic restructuring. The Maine Downtown Center is now working with the town of Livermore Falls to develop a pilot project for communities that are not fully ready to assume the responsibilities of a full Main Street Program, calling this approach "Square One."

Investment Opportunity Portfolio
The Network is developing a portfolio of "investment opportunities" – local projects that seek capital to move the regional development agenda forward.
